Zakynthos, also known as Zante, is the third largest of the Ionian Islands, covering an area of 410 km² (158 sq mi) and its coastline is roughly 123 km (76 mi) in length. Back in the old days, the Venetians, captured by its beauty gave Zakynthos a name that would describe exactly what they felt ”Fioro tou Levante”, which means the Flower of the East.
Zakynthos (Zante) with the magnificent nature, mild climate, tourist infrastructure and unique culture, may welcome visitors all year round, visitors which shall take the best impressions of the island back home with them. Apart from Zakynthos beautiful landscapes and nature, you will immediately realize that the island is part of the ecosystem, as it is the home place of the protected species Caretta-Caretta turtle. A great number of Zakynthos beaches offer their sandy shores to the Caretta-Caretta turtle to lay its eggs. They are protected by the National Marine Park, in order to reassure the safety, the protection and the returning of the turtles every year, so that they will continue their reproduction uninterrupted and unharmed.
